If you are a student who prefers to take the wheel when it comes to your work, join us for our Independent Learner College Application Workshop. The College Application team of Liddane Tutoring and Kussick College Coaching are offering this new workshop designed to help you make the most of your application with a one-hour online lesson each day for a week, plus all the resources needed to write and complete your college application and essay(s) independently. This package also includes follow-up time with a writing tutor. If more support is needed, additional one-on-one time with your tutor can be added for an additional cost.

Areas covered include:

Monday

●       What admissions officers look for in college essays and which topics and approaches to avoid.

●       Dissection of the Common Application prompts and what they are actually asking.

●       Review of various brainstorming activities to jump start the personal statement.

Tuesday

●       How to move free-writing/brainstorming into a structured essay.

●       Review narrative vs. montage essay styles and their effectiveness for answering the prompts.

●       How to evaluate if your essay is doing the job.  

Wednesday

●       Go over supplemental essay questions and what they all have in common.

●       How to turn more than 10 supplemental essays into three to five!

●       Specifically break down the “Why Us?”, “Diversity” and “Community” essay themes.

●       Address when and how to write the optional essays.

●       Provide resources and samples.

Thursday

●       How to effectively write the activity list section within the limitations of the Common App.

●       Everyone has activities even when they think they don’t:  what are they and how to showcase your unique attributes through your activities?

●       Group practice demonstrations.

●       Bonus:  this is a great way to start learning about how to write a resume.

Friday

●       Editing tricks (or how to get a 2,000-word essay down to 650!)

●       Editing review checklists.

●       How to ask for and make sure you ask for a great letter of recommendation.

●       What is a “brag sheet” and what do you do with it?
